Some people are wondering whether this particular comic is directed at folks on twitter discussing the strip but I don't think it is.

First, the bird isn't blue.

Second, he's taken fire at people before, notably with Thorax and his hand puppet. This was directed at a Live Journal community that discussed his comic... and which, sadly, also had members who went to his own blog and the comments section on gocomics or wherever his comics were hosted at the time. I forget where exactly they were hosted. It's the reason he requested there be no comments section on gocomics for any of his stuff.

This was the era of hate reading "For Better or For Worse" too, the first place I heard the term "foe fiction." It's like fan fiction but about characters you hate. A lot of it was over the top performative, but there was some remarkably creative stuff as well.

Frankly, a lack of a comment section would improve 96% of comics as discussion ranges from tedious to creepy to boring to outright disgusting. Nope, sorry, I don't think Curtis' (from "Curtis") parents should beat the shit out of him, and I'm extremely wary of looking at the comments section of any strip that has a daughter character because no matter her age people will get utterly nasty in ways I'd have to trigger warn for before discussing them. It is abhorrent.

I don't think McEldowney's going out and name searching for himself, and I don't think his daughter(s?) is either. He's just doing his thing and his thing involves a bird having a call that sounds like insulting words.
